Sylvester Woodfork married Ethel Louise Thomas of Washington, DC during the early 1920’s. She was the daughter of James Edward Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Arthur. Sylvester and Ethel had eight children.

Sylvester
retired from his position with the District of Columbia Health Department in
the 1950’s after 37 years of service. He
then worked as a salesman for Parham Realty Company and drove his own taxicab
for many years. He was very active in his community. Family history
states he was Commander of the American Legion James E. Walker Post 26,
President of the Hutradena Club, a member of Bethea-Welch Post 7284, a member
of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vice President of the Municipal Employee’s Association, announcer for the Municipal
Male Chorus for Radio WINX, a member of the Oldest Inhabitants, Inc, and a
member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Sylvester Woodfork died June 16, 1986 in Washington, DC. His funeral was held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Washington, DC and was officiated by Dr. Alfonso J. Harrod. He was buried at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA on June 24, 1986.
Ethel Woodfork died on August 12, 1998 in Washington, DC. Her funeral was on August 19, 1998 at Peoples Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, DC. She was buried at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
